What is the IPL full form?
The word IPL is an acronym, and the IPL full form stands for “Indian Premier League”. The IPL is a cricket tournament that is played in the t20 format. In year 2008, the Indian Premier League was introduced by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), 2008 and the match was started on the 18th of April 2008 and the Rajasthan Royals was the first IPL winner in 2008.
The format of IPL is such that it allows cricket players from all over the world to play in the Indian Premier League. The Indian players and the foreign players form a team and the selection of the players is done through the bidding process.
The best players from the ODI and T20 international cricket are valued very high in the IPL bidding. And the teams are formed like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, etc.
IPL Format
The format of IPL is such that the teams are made and each team will play two matches against each other and in total the team has to play 14 matches to reach in semi-finals and the eight teams will play in the quarter-final. After qualifying for the quarter-final, the 4 teams will in the semi-finals and only two teams will go for the finals.
The qualifying of the quarter-final to the semi-final is done on the basis of the points which the teams have to earn by winning the matches.
Guidelines for Composition of IPL Team
Following is the set of guidelines that have to be followed while forming any team.
- Each and every team must have at least 16 players.
- In the playing XI squad, the foreign players should be 4 in number.
- The first class or ‘list A’ under 19 players can play in the IPL.
- For Indian players there will be no quota.
