What is the CBI full form?

The widely used full form of CBI is the “Central Bureau of Investigation”. The ministry of home affairs set up the CBI in 1963 by passing the resolution. Later it was transferred to the ministry of personal, the Special police establishment set in 1941 was also merged with the CBI.

Santhanam Committee recommended the establishment of the CBI on the prevention of Corruption (1962-1964) the CBI is neither a statuary body nor the constitutional body, it derived it power from the Delhi police establishment Act 1946.

Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) gets assistance from the CBI.

Duties of CBI

The following are the main focus of the CBI, which are given below:

  • Combating corruption in public life.
  • Curbing Violent and economic crimes.
  • Helps in fighting the cyber and high technology crimes.
  • Playing a lead role in the war against national and transnational organized crimes.
  • Developing the scientific temper, humanism, and the spirit of inquiry and reform.
  • Upholding human rights, protecting environment, art, heritage, and antiques of our civilization.

Organizations of CBI

The following are the divisions of the CBI:

  1. Anti-corruption division
  2. Economic offences division
  3. Special crime division
  4. Policy and International police cooperation division
  5. Administration division
  6. Directive of prosecution
  7. Central forensic laboratory

Composition of CBI

The CBI is headed by the director. He is assisted by the special director or an additional director. The director of CBI is an Inspector-General of police and the Delhi police establishment is responsible for the administration of the organization.

The director of the CBI is provided with the security of two-year tenure by the CVC Act 2003. IPS Subodh Kumar Jaiswal from the Maharashtra cadre is the current CBI director. The training academy of the CBI is located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Ans.) Supreme Court in the year 2013 in UPA government, the apex court said CBI a “caged parrot” because it’s speaking its master voice. So, the supreme court questions the independence of the CBI and called it a caged parrot.
