About UPSC Exam Pattern
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Exams (CSE) once a year for the recruitment of the candidates for the Administrative Services (IAS), Police Services (IPS), and Indian Forest Services (IFoS) and the UPSC Result is published within the one month of every stage of examination.
UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) has three stages of examination that are stage 1 of Prelims exam, stage 2 of Mains exam, and stage 3 of Interview. After every stage of examination, the UPSC declares the result based on which the qualifying candidates move to the next stage of the Mains and the Interview. UPSC releases the prelims result after the month of the exam and the candidates who cleared the prelims have to give the mains exam and they have to fill the DAF form for the interview round.
The final selection of the candidate is made on the basis of the performance on all of these three stages and the final merit list is published on the official website of the UPSC
Every year around more than 10 lakhs of candidates filled the UPSC IAS form and about 5 lakhs appeared in the preliminary exam out of which approximately 12 to 13 times of the total vacancies the candidates qualify the mains written exam and around 2 times of the total vacancies the candidates appeared for the Interview stage and the final selection is made as per the vacancies available.
After the UPSC mains result declaration, the mains qualified candidate has to go to the UPSC office in Delhi for the IAS interview, the candidates need to carry the original and photocopies of the documents which will be verified by the officer.

UPSC CSE (IAS) Exam Prelims Result Calculation
UPSC follows the following marking criteria for the IAS exam result:
- The paper 1 General Studies section has 100 questions and each question is of 2 marks so the maximum marks for paper 1 are 200 marks.
- Paper 2 CSAT has 80 questions and each question is 2.5 marks so the maximum marks for paper 2 are 200 marks.
- Paper 2 of CSAT is of qualifying nature so the candidate has to score a minimum of 33% on paper 2 and its marks will not be added for qualifying IAS Prelims.
- For the wrong question, 1/3rd will be deducted which is in paper 1 (0.667 marks) and paper 2 (0.83 marks) will be deducted.
