About NDA Exam:
It is the exam conducted by the UPSC twice a year for male candidates. It selects the candidates for the Nation Defence Academy and Naval Academy for the branch of Army, Navy, and Airforce.
The candidates clearing stage 1 that is NDA written exam will be called for the SSB (Service Selection Board) at any of the SSB centres of the Airforce, Army, and Navy. The candidate has to go for SSB in any of the following centres given below:
NDA SSB centre for Army wing is:
- Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) SSB centre
- Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) SSB centre
- Bangalore (Karnataka) SSB centre
- Kapurthala (Punjab) SSB centre
NDA SSB centre for Airforce wing are:
- (1 AFSB) AFSB Dehradun (Uttarakhand)
- (2 AFSB) AFSB Mysuru (Karnataka)
- (3 AFSB) AFSB Gandhinagar (Gujarat)
- (4 AFSB) AFSB Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh)
- Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) SSB centre
- Bangalore (Karnataka) SSB centre
- Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) SSB centre
The candidates who will clear the stage 2 SSB will be sent for the medical examination, and the final selection is made on the basis of combined marks of the NDA Exam (written exam) and SSB. Around 400 candidates made it to the merit list of the NDA Exam. The candidate who will be made to the merit list will be called for the training at the Nation Defence Academy (NDA) Pune, Khadakwasla.

Detailed NDA SSB Interview Process:
After the selection of the date and centre, the candidate will receive or download the call letter. The call letter will provide all the necessary information regarding the SSB and dress code.
On the selected the candidate has to report to the movement control office (MCO) at the railway station. The SSB centre representative will be present there he will guide you to the bus that will take you to the SSB centre. A candidate who will come by road has to report directly to the SSB centre.
NDA SSB interview is the 5 days long selection process that is comprised of two stages that stage 1 (Screening) and stage 2 (Testing of the screen in candidates).
The candidates who are reporting on day 1 at the selection centre (SSB centre) will have to go for the screening process that is stage 1 of the SSB. The candidates who will clear the screening will be screen in and others will be screen out and the screen out candidates have to leave the centre and the screen in candidates have to go for the stage 2 selection process.
Composition of the NDA SSB:
The AFSB is the same as the Service Selection Board (SSB), the testing is done in three formats which are:
1) The Interviewing Officer (IO)
2) Group Task Officer (GTO)
3) Psychologist

List of Documents required for the NDA SSB Interview:
Following are the list of documents required for the NDA SSB interview, the candidate must have the original documents and the photocopies of the documents.
- Matriculation Certificate/mark sheet or equivalent.
- Intermediate and 10+2 mark sheet.
- No claim certificate.
- Valid identity proof.
- Not Having Duplicate Registration IDs/ Profiles Certificate.
- UPSC Admit Card.
- Bonafide cum Custodian certificate, if original documents are submitted for higher studies.
- 12th appearing candidates must bring a certificate on original letterhead signed by head or principal of institution which consists of dates of final exam and results.
- 12th passed candidates must bring proof of passing (self-declaration certificate).
- Certificate of previous SSB attempts.

Testing Schedule of NDA SSB:
The testing of the SSB is done in two stages and in 5 days. The candidates who will clear stage 1 of screening will go for the stage 2 process. The detail of every day of testing is given below:
Day 1: Screening Test
The screening is done in 2 parts these are:
Intelligence Test:
The intelligence test (verbal and non-verbal) is similar to the IQ test. These include verbal analogies, synonyms and antonyms, critical reasoning, and verbal deductions.
The non-verbal intelligence test includes a series of pattern and figures. Where a candidate has to identify the pattern and choose the correct answer.
Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT):
After the intelligence test candidates have to go through PP and DT. In the picture perception test (PP), the candidates are shown a picture and asked to write a short story based on their perception of the picture within 4 minutes and 30 seconds are given to observe the picture.
After the perception test (PP) the candidates are divided into groups and are asked to narrate the story one by one. After narrating the stories, the group is expected to discuss and arrive at one common story.
Once the intelligence test and PPDT are done, the result is declared on the basis of these two tests. The candidates who cleared stage 1 are screen in and others will be screen out, and the screen in candidates will go for stage 2 testing.
Interview Round:
The interview of the candidates will be done on any day between day 2 and day 5. The candidate will be informed in advance before the interview. In the interview, round questions are asked generally from the experience and personal life of the candidate, mostly the questions are from the PIQ form which the candidate has to fill after getting the screen in on day 1.

Day 2: Psychological Test
On the second day the psychological tests are conducted these are:
Word Association Test (WAT):
In this test, candidates are shown 60 words one after the other and are expected to make a short sentence using the word shown.
Thematic Apperception Test (TAT):
In this test, candidates will be shown 11 pictures on the basis of his/her perception the candidate has to write the story, and in the end, one blank picture will be shown where the candidate has to write any of the stories of his choice.
Situation Reaction Test (SRT):
In this test, candidates are given 60 situations and the candidate has to write his responses.
Self-Description (SD) Test:
In this test, the candidate has to write about himself on the given set of questions by the testing officer.
Day 3: Group Testing Exercises
It begins with the third day. These group tasks are done in the groups which are formed by the testing officers. Group Task Officer (GTO) will conduct these tasks and before conducting these tasks the GTO will give the instructions and the guidelines about the tasks.
Tests that are done on day 3 are:
- Group Discussion (GD)
- Group Planning Exercise (GPE)
- Progressive Group Task (PGT)
- Group Obstacle Race (GOR)
- Half Group Task (HGT)
Note: Lecturette is not conducted in the AFSB it is conducted in SSB (Army and Navy).
Day 4: Remaining Group Tests
The remaining group tasks are conducted on the fourth day. These includes:
- Command Task (CT)
- Final Group Task (FGT)
- Individual Obstacles (IO)
In the individual obstacles, the test candidate has to cover the 10 obstacles within 3 minutes.
Day 5: Conference Round
On the last day, the final board conference is held and the results are announced.
In the conference round each and every candidate has to appear before the entire board in the conference room. The candidates are called one by one and the board asks few general questions.
Result of NDA SSB:
After the conference the result is announced on the basis of all the tests, the candidates who cleared the tests are recommended and have to go for the medical test and others will be conference out.
NDA SSB Medical Examination:
The candidates who qualify for the SSB interview will go for the medical examination (special medical board-SMB) it usually takes 4 to 6 days but in special cases, it may take up to 7 to 8 days.
The candidates who are found unfit in the special medical board (SMB), within 42 days the candidate may apply for Appeal Medical Board (AMB).
If the candidate found unfit even in Appeal Medical Board (AMB) he can make a final appeal to the Review Medical Board (RMB) but within 24hrs of AMB approval. But the grant of Review Medical Board (RMB) is at the medical Authorities’ description.
Medical procedure for the common candidates of NDA and TES Entry:
- The candidates who applied for National Defence Academy (NDA/NA) and 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme (TES) parallelly will go a medical examination by the Board of Service Medical Officers for recommended entries.
- The TES recommended candidates prior to NDA SBB have to go for the medical examination separately for NDA (Airforce and Navy) and TES.
- Only if the candidate has the Army preference in the NDA, the TES candidates need not go for medical examination again for the NDA (if he is fit in TES medical).
- The NDA recommended candidates need not go for the TES medical examination separately.
- The unfit candidate in NDA also considered unfit for TES.
