About AFACT Exam

Indian Air Force conducts the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), which is conducted two times every year. Air Force Common Admission Test 1 (AFCAT 1) is conducted in the month of February and Air Force Common Admission Test 2(AFCAT 2) is conducted in the month of August/September.

ACFAT is conducted to join the Indian Airforce by male and female as a group A Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches, they join as the Permanent Commission and Short service commission.

Candidates are selected on the basis of the result of the 3 stages. Stage 1 online exam, Stage 2 Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview, and Stage 3 is Medical. A candidate who clears all these stages and makes to final merit list by clearing the cut-off got selected.

Type of Commission in Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)

Permanent Commission (PC) for Men

Candidates joining as Permanent Commission officers will continue to serve till the age of superannuation.

Short Service Commission (SSC) for Men & Women

(i) 14 years from the date of Commissioning is the engagement period for Flying Branch for both Men and Women SSC Officers is and it is Nonextendable.

(ii) 10 Years is the initial tenure for Ground Duty for both Technical and Non-Technical SSC Officers. On the availability of vacancies, merit, suitability, and willingness 4 years of extension can be given.

(iii) On the availability of vacancies, merit, suitability, and willingness. Consideration for grant of permanent commission is done in the last 1 year of service.

AFCAT Application Form Filling Process

After the release of the AFCAT notification, apply online by doing the registration on the afcat cdac website, then log in to your profile and fill the application form by paying the examination fees.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the AFCAT examination the candidate must fullfil the following eligibility criteria:

Nationality

As per Indian citizenship act, 1955, candidate must be a citizen of India.

Age Limit

The age limit is different for the different branches as per the notification. The age criteria for different branches are given below in the table.

BranchesAge Limit
FlyingThe age limit for the flying branch candidates must be between 20 and 24 years. If the person is a Commercial Pilot License holder, he has an age relaxation of up to 26 years. 
Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical)The age limit for ground duty for both technical and non-technical branches is between 20 and 26 years.
Marital Status
  • The person below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of course join.
  • If the Widows/Widowers and divorcees are below 25 years are also not eligible.
  • The 25 years above married candidate are eligible, but they are can neither live with family nor they will be provided married accommodation.

Flying BranchThe person must have cleared 12th with a mini. of 50% marks in each subject of Maths and Physics and; With minimum 60% marks 3-year graduation in any discipline. Or  Four years BE/BTech or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks. Or Section A and B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) must be cleared by the candidate with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Ground Duty (Technical Branch)Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics): Candidate must have passed Class 12 with 60% each in Mathematics and Physics and 4 years degree or integrated post-graduation in Technology / Engineering. Or Section A and B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) must be cleared by the candidate with a minimum of 60% marks. Or Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers graduate membership examination with a minimum of 60% marks in the disciplines specified by the authority. Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical): Candidate must have passed Class 12 with 60% each in Mathematics and Physics and 4 years degree or integrated post-graduation in Technology / Engineering. Or Section A and B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) must be cleared by the candidate with a minimum of 60% marks in the disciplines specified by the authority.

AFCAT Physical and Medical Standards

The candidate must be physically and medically fit to carry out his duties. The basic medical and physical standards are given below:

  • Candidates with an old spine fracture, are subject to rejection.
  • Removal of tuberculous glands will be a cause for rejection.
  • For the Flying Branch, the Minimum height will be 162.5 cm.
  • For flying branches, the minimum height for both men and women is 162.5 cm.
  • Obstruction to free-breathing can cause unfit.
  • 20 dB is the upper limit for the audiometric loss.
  • A person wearing spectacles or of defective vision is eligible but they will be assessed properly.
  • PRK and LASIK candidates are eligible for all the branches.
  • No PRK/ LASIK surgery before 20 years of age.
  • With no evidence of complication, the candidate must have at least 12 months of gap periods after the PRK and LASIK.
  • For ground duty (Technical/Non-technical) Branch minimum height requirement for men candidate is 157.5 cm and for a female candidate is 152 cm.
  • The minimum height requirement for the candidates from Gorkha, Garhwal, the North-Eastern region of India, and Kumaon is 5 cm less for both men and females.
