State bird of Bihar
House sparrow
It is a bird from the Passeridae family of Sparrow. It is found in most parts of the world.
Habitats: They are found in a wide variety of habitats mains in the human settlements of both the urban and rural areas.
Length: They are typical of a small length of 16 cm.
Conservation status (IUCN status): Least concern
State animal of Bihar
Gaur
It is also known as the Indian bison.
Native: It is native to South and South-East Asia
Habitats: Found in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, China, and Nepal.
Conservation status (IUCN status): Vulnerable
Threats: Poaching for trade to supply international markets.
State tree of Bihar
Sacred fig (Peepal)
It is also known as the Ficus religiosa, bodhi tree, Ashwattha tree (in Nepal and India).
Native: Peepal tree is native to the Indian subcontinent and Indo-China.
Religious Importance: It has religious importance in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Under this tree Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment.

Bauhinia variegate (Kachnar)
It is a flowering plant from the Fabaceae legume family.
Other names: orchid tree and mountain ebony.
Native: This flower is native from China through Southeast Asia to the Indian subcontinent.
Conservation status (IUCN status): Least Concern
State Emblem of Bihar
Bodhi Tree
The literal meaning of “Bodhi tree” is “tree of awakening” it is also known as Bo tree.
Other names: Peepal Tree, Ficus religiosa, bodhi tree, Ashwattha tree.
Location: located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar.
Importance: Siddhartha Gautama also known as Buddha. He is the spiritual leader of Buddhism who attained enlightenment under this tree.

Walking catfish (Mangur)
It is a species of freshwater airbreathing catfish.
Native: It is native to Southeast Asia.
Name: It is named walking catfish because of its ability to wiggle and walk across dry land.
Habitats: streams, ponds, swamps, rivers, flooded rice paddies.
Conservation status (IUCN status): Least Concern
State fruit of Bihar
Mango
It is also known as “common mango” or “Indian mango”, Mangifera indica.
Native: It is native to South Asia.
National Fruit: Mango fruit is the national fruit of both India and Pakistan.
National Tree: The mango tree is the national tree of Bangladesh.

Bihar Day (22 March)
22 March is observed as the Bihar Diwas (Bihar Day), on 22 march in 1912 British government carved out the state from the Bengal and formed the new state known as the Bihar.
